BILL W. and Dr. BOB

Hello all, last night my friend Michael allowed me to escort him to Bill W. and Dr. Bob being presented at the New World Stages. This show was done very well. the set and costumes were great. The performances were outstanding. Sadly, I (personally) did not care about the story at all. What I found exhilarating was the performances. The actors in this show must be exhausted after each performance. They work so hard. So very hard.
This story is about Bill W & Dr. Bob who co-founded Alcoholics Anonymous. How they were horrible alcoholics, lost their lives, financially, spiritually & socially. They really did hit rock bottom. That being said "I still didn't care." I guess the real problem here is me. I didn't care about the subject matter. I'm a product of today's media. I've become desensitized against the horrors of living in this world. I have to be honest, no matter how interesting the actor's craft was. Or how interesting the director made the scenes appear. The story was just blah. How sad.

My hunch is that the entire following for this play will be people in 12 step programs... And in NY, there are enough of those to keep it running a long time!

We'll see...

You're the first person I know that has seen it...

I have to agree with Todd. I can't imagine who else would be interested. I had a 12 stepper as a partner for 13 years, and can testify to the practical canonization of Bill W. and Dr. Bob in those circles.

I wouldn't therefore, see your lack of interest as evidence of desensitization to human misery.

This was very funny Ryan. I am down here in FL with my dad and mom (who has been a friend of Bill's for over 25 years) and we all laughed out loud when I read your review aloud. Thanks for the laugh! xo
