Dry

I've finished another book by New Yorker Augusten Burroughs. This book was really good. I ate it up. Mr. Burroughs related to me in this story. It was so nice to read a book that dealt with gay men and their lives. Living in this 'straight world' finding a non-porn book concerning gay men is rather difficult. This book spoke to me. Not because I'm an alcoholic, no. Although some would differ with that statement (on many different levels). But because he talks about boyfriends and day to day life. What a joy that at my age (that which will remain unwritten) I finally find a book, that isn't so much gay, but a story with a gay main character. For this reason alone, you should read this book.

As for the story itself. It tells of Mr. Burroughs' adult life while working at an ad agency. How he got a $200K per year job with not even a high school diploma. (Where is the fairness in that I ask?) How he stopped being a raging alcoholic. His boyfriend and friends at the time and how their lives intertwined. A happy, sad, story with Augusten's wry sense of humor that I can absolutely relate to. Also I must mention that I feel that the author wrote this book better than the last one I read. Maybe he's perfected his skill? Definitely read this - especially if you're a gay, or better yet a gay alcoholic drug abuser.

Sounds like a good plane read to me and I have an 18 hour one-way trip coming up this year :)

I've read all of his books and am one of the view who enjoyed the Running With Scissors film. I have this book but haven't started it yet. Sadly Statistics and Chemistry comes first...

Thanks for sharing your review.

RWS was so good. I've just bought this and need to finish some other trash I'm reading before I jump on this.
