The Addams Family

Last Saturday Michael Marie took me to see The Addams Family on Broadway. I have to be honest, I didn't have high hopes for this show as the word on the street is that is really, REALLY bad. But I like Bebe Neuwirth so I figured I could sit through Nathan Lane doing is regular old shtick. Was I wrong, let's dish...
First Bebe was OK, but not fabulous. She looked great. This was Nathan's show hands down. And you know what? He was different in it. Not the same Nathan we've seen in his past shows. I really enjoyed his Gomez. The rest of the cast was pretty good. Truly the set was amazing and fun to look at. In general, the stage craft used in this show was excellent, but not game changing or groundbreaking.
The real problem with this show is the story. It's a tried and true story that we've seen in many other stories over the years. As a matter of fact, it's the exact same story as La Cage Aux Folles. Only less gay and more monster. Same story guys. So overall, I'm glad that I saw this show, but even gladerer that I didn't buy a ticket. Should you go see this? Eh, sure, if the tickets are cheap & you've seen everything else already.
